EAGLES TRAFFIC ARREST MALE ETHIOPIANS AND FEMALE ANGOLAN
North West MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management,
.applauded the officers for their vigilance and quick action on any suspicious movement.
This after a white panel van was spotted entering Klerksdorp from the Potchefstroom direction on the N12. Upon the investigations by the special traffic unit
, 20 male
and female
were loaded in the vehicle. It was established that the South African owned vehicle was driven by an Ethiopian with a South African driver’s license but only producing asylum seekers documents without any other official document except the one for asylum seekers.
“This is exactly what we mean when we say we are going to arrest, arrest and more arrests because we have very dedicated law enforcement officers in our province, who are vigilant and very quick to act on suspicious,” said MEC Morweng.
Upon requesting relevant documentation from the rest of male Ethiopians and female Angolan, 05 Ethiopians had passports with 04 not valid and only one valid. The remaining 14 Ethiopians and female Angolan produced fake Affidavits, stamped on the 29 July 2024.
According to the report, the vehicle was travelling from Pretoria to their final destination in Schweizer-Reneke. The officers escorted the vehicle to the Klerksdorp police station and registered cases against individuals while the Ethiopian driver was further charged for overloading of passengers and contravention of the Road Traffic Act.
MEC Morweng further warned others to be ready for the might of the law if they are not going to abide by the rules of the country.
“The arrests of these ones should now send a strong message to others who were still considering moving to this side but not adhering to the laws. Remember in my budget speech, I said we can’t surrender our country to lawlessness, this is one of the cases I am talking about,’’ said MEC Morweng.
Investigation is expected to continue with the involvement of Immigration officials from the Department of Home Affairs and relevant action will be taken afterwards.
