The phase three of the accelerated service delivery program, Thuntsha Lerole kick started today with Law Enforcement Roadblock on N12 in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda district. Three and twenty two (322) vehicles were stopped , twenty six (26) traffic traffic fines issued.

Civilian Secretariat for Police conducted the monitoring and oversight of Khuma Police Station. The Team met the Station Commander Lt. Col. Patricia Selehelo and Vispol Commander Captain Mmisele

The crimes reported to be affecting the Police Station included all forms of assaults and this is due to alcohol consumption in the area and a high number of Liquor Outlets.

She raised sharply the issues of illegal mining (Zama-Zama) that contribute to the high rate of murders and a high number of illegal firearms which are usually confiscated during special operations.

The CPF is not functional which added to the list of the challenges. However, the matter is receiving necessary attention as the Station is preparing for elections. Furthermore, there is a high number of Gender Based Violence cases, and many of them were received from parents and children, and grandparents and children and a few from partners.

The issue of Public Works was also raised during the visits. Issues of maintenance of the station, even though they were reported, they are not attended to. These included Cells and leaking roof.
