Brits, Madibeng
The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management held a memorial service in honour of the late PI Peiso Isaac “Zuma” Pietersen, a man who will be remembered for his compassion and love for those close to him.
The memorial service, held at Primindia Hall (Brits), which was painted with pride in colours of SAPS and Road Safety Officials of the North-West province, oozed off a jovial mood in celebration of the life of a man who was a pillar of strength in his community.
Lt. Colonel Khumalo, and PPI Molokoane, who opened the service and welcomed all attendees brought forth, Mr. T Monokwa, uncle of Pietersen, who said he will remember his nephew for the love and care he had for his children.
“Everyone knew that Peiso prioritised his children and that they were at the forefront of his life. He really broke the stigma that men cannot express their feelings or be affectionate with those close to them. He will definitely be remembered”, said Monokwa.
PI Mphela, a very close friend to Pietersen, also reflected on the Road Safety Training for officials that he attended with Pietersen, which he described as the “college days”.
“My journey with Pietersen, who I used to call “Ike”, tracks back to our college days where we became friends and embarked on our journey as Road Safety officials together. He was more than a colleague, he was a brother to me, and someone who never shied away from showing love to his family and friends. For that, I will miss my friend!”, said Mphela.
Pietersen was not only known for his compassion and love, but for his professionalism too, which was a standout factor in line of duty.
Control PI Ramasodi reaffirmed this statement saying “Zuma was disciplined, and honest. It was not hard to tell whenever he was at fault. He was grounded in principles of integrity, honesty, and most importantly, reliability because he was loyal to his role as a Road Safety Official. We shall definitely miss him.”
Chief Director responsible Transport Regulations, Mr. M. Morule also conveyed a message of support on behalf of the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management to the Pietersen family reassuring them that the department will stand with; and support them in these times of grief.
“Rest assured, the department shall be with you in these trying times, and provide the necessary support required to assist you. We truly cry with you, as this loss is not only great to your family, but it is to the department too. Let us however not cry but rejoice and celebrate Zuma for his selflessness and thank God for lending him to us”, said Morule.
Petersen will be remembered, not only for his love and passion, but dedication as a public servant. One who served people with dignity and pride. May his souls rest in peace.
