2ND QUATER 2025/2026 PROVINCIAL TRANSPORT FORUM
The Department of Community Safety and Transport Managements Chief Directorate for Transport Operations with the Directorate of Transport Planning and Policy Development , along with transport industry stakeholders the National Department of Transport and municipality representatives, such as the South African Local Government Association (SALGA),the North West University (NWU), Leaders and academics in Transport Economics Analysis, Planning and Training convened in Ditsobotla Local Municipality in Lichtenburg for the 2nd Quarter 2025/2026 Provincial Transport Forum.
Chaired by the Acting Chief Director of Transport Operations Ms Mpho Rantona,the warm welcoming echoed with camaraderie spirit and urge to have a progressive session for all present officials.“Colleagues you’re welcomed to deliberate on today’s session, you’re all here to make progression from the 1st Quarter forum, thank you” said Rantona.
Such meetings bring together key stakeholders to discuss pressing transport issues and collaborative solutions, furthering the province’s transportation goals. To also come up with integrated development plans, with a focus on informing other plans.
Municipalities and stakeholders discussed their focus on feasibility studies in integrated development plans. These studies aim to inform project planning and implementation, ensuring alignment with provincial transportation goals. By prioritizing infrastructure improvement, municipalities are working to expand and improve public infrastructure sustainably.
The collaboration of these stakeholder in such forums is to really grow North West together and South Africa in general. The joint venture of government,educational sector in this instance the North West University,municipalities and Private entities will provide feasibility studies, business planning, and project implementation to drive progress and achieve provincial transportation goals.
The Integrated Development Plan (IDP) is a crucial tool for local government, enabling municipalities to prioritize development needs, engage in strategic planning, and enhance service delivery through effective planning and implementation. By focusing on integrated development plans and infrastructure improvement, municipalities can drive progress and achieve provincial transportation goals.
The meeting underscored the importance of collaborative solutions in addressing transport challenges and promoting sustainable development in the province. As each district in the province display report on work done and plans in place for development. Next forum meeting will be held in November.
