BEWARE OF DCSTM TENDER SCAM
The North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management has noted with concern about the alleged scammer who impersonates to be a senior official and send business people WhatsApp messages, allegedly acting as if he/she is proving an update to individuals regarding an advertised tender that they have applied for.
It has come to the attention of the department that an individual/s creates a conversation on WhatsApp targeting business people some already doing business with the department in the province trying to scam them of money.
“Is regarding the tender that you submitted to us.”
“ The company is shortlisted.”
“The company has 90 percent chances to get job. I will call you after 10 minutes.”
Above are some of the messages brought to the attention of the department, indicating the trend on how the scammer is communicating with the targeted business people.
The department would therefore like to put it on record that, currently there is no an advertised tender, and there is a formal way that the department communicates with its clients and service providers.
Department would like to warn the business people of such scammer who will end up extorting money from them.
“We plead with any business people to report to their nearest police stations whenever they come across who will try to scam them.”
