PROVINCIAL TRANSPORT FORUM

The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management Department Convenes first quarter Provincial Transport Forum in Bloemhof.

This strategic gathering brought together intergovernmental departments, municipal leadership, and academic experts to evaluate the current state of public transport across the North West Province.

The forum serves as a critical collaborative platform to address persistent operational hurdles, align mitigating strategies, and secure the province’s economic mobility.

Key forum’s objectives is to assess and review the current state of public transport, road infrastructure and
outlining the 2026/2027 budget allocations specifically for roads, infrastructure developments, maintenance, and road safety management.

Stakeholders identified regulatory gaps as primary trigger for the recent Mahikeng Shutdown by local taxi operators.To prevent future disruptions, the forum resolved to fast-track stricter enforcement frameworks, expand transit routes, and upgrade road networks to ensure smoother, safer intra-province travel.

The forum highlighted a strong intergovernmental and cross-sector approach, featuring active participation from, Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati, Ngaka Modiri Molema, Dr Kenneth Kaunda, Bojanala District
Municipalities, Rustenburg Local Municipality, academic experts representatives from North-West University and National Departments of Land Reform and Rural Development and Transport

This unified approach directly advances the department’s core mission on enhancing transport regulations to build safer, more connected communities.
