NORTH WEST FREIGHT WORKING GROUP STRENGTHENS TRANSPORT COORDINATION

MAHIKENG – The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management (DCSTM), through its Directorate of Transport Terminals, convened its second-quarter North West Freight Working Group meeting to strengthen stakeholder collaboration and address key transport-related matters affecting the province.
The meeting brought together representatives from the Railway Safety Regulator (RSR), North West Office of the Premier, district municipalities, South African Revenue Service (SARS), Border Management Authority (BMA), Transport Education and Training Authority (TETA) and Road Freight Association (RFA). The engagement was also attended by the Chief Director of Transport Operations, Mr Patrick Mohono.
Director of Transport Terminals, Mr Thabo Sematle, highlighted the importance of collaboration and a coordinated approach among stakeholders in ensuring the efficient movement of goods and people, particularly within the freight transport sector.

“ The purpose of such meetings is for the department and stakeholders to discuss various matters affecting transport in general, whether municipal, departmental, taxi-related, law enforcement or border management. Stakeholders must contribute towards a common approach and harmonise their efforts,” said Mr Sematle.

He further emphasised that these engagements provide a platform for stakeholders to identify operational challenges and highlight areas where policy interventions may be necessary to improve transport coordination and service delivery.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of sustained collaboration, effective communication and joint problem-solving in addressing transport-related challenges.
By bringing together key role-players, the North West Freight Working Group aims to promote a more integrated approach to transport operations and support the efficient movement of freight across the province.
