JB Marks Local Municipality drivers benefits from “Driver Skills Enhancement Workshop”

The workshop is taking place in the October Transport Month and attracted a good number of taxi operators and drivers from private organisations including officials from JB Marks Local Municipality to enhance their driving skills and become responsible operators.

The workshop is part of the Road Safety Management Directorate’s campaign to reduce road crashes and save lives by influencing driver behaviour.

The Director for Road Safety Management Ms Motshabi Tshukudu, in the department encouraged drivers to be more cautious on the roads, to familiarise themselves with road safety regulations and learn as much as possible from the workshop.

“We urge all road users to be ambassadors of road safety and cascade the information to the public at large. We have road safety educational campaigns in place to enlighten our communities about our constitutional mandate as a department to guarantee the safety of the public,” said Tshukudu.

Operators learned about Advanced Defensive Driver Training, Hazard Identification and Management, System of Vehicle Control and Pre-Trip inspection/Hijack Prevention Tips and Blindspot Checks among other skills facilitated by Managing Director of Drive4Life Mr Ashref (Ash) Ismail.

Following stakeholders formed part of the session, Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, JB Marks Local Municipality, Southern Schooler Transport Operators Associations (SOSTOA) and Greater Potch Taxi Association.
