MEC MORWENG TO ADVOCATE RESOURCES FOR SAPS NW


An overnight visit by MEC responsible for the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management Wessels Morweng was an eye opener on the realities of challenges faced by the SAPS .
True to his budget vote he conducted unannounced visits, the first visit were at Klerksdorp and Jourberton police stations.
MEC Morweng expressed his satisfaction on the status of the two stations besides challenges of resources.

“Tools of trade for our members is a main challenge, and this leads to communities complains about poor service delivery by the police.

Our communities are complaining about police arriving late at the crime scenes, yet they (police) struggle with resources. The issue of personnel it is a serious issue that we must be able to address it with our Minister of Police through our MinMec platforms, however, we must also have an engagement with the Minister regarding our situation in the Province,” said Morweng.

Accompanied by the Matlosana Local Municipality Executive Mayor Cllr Fikile Mahlophe and the Acting HoD of the Department Ms Mpho Maleme a d Senior Management, MEC Moorweng further emphasized the need to restore the integrity of SAPS and government at large.

He further committed to strengthen the relations between the communities and police in creating the safer environment in the province.

The two stations are experiencing a high number of Gender Based Violence cases, burglary, car theft, rape and murder.
