The N4 in the Ramotshere Moiloa Local Munucipality which was blockaded since early hours of this morning is now opened.
The law enforcement officers are still monitoring the situation and had to earlier use the water Canon truck to forcefully remove the taxis that were blocking arterial road that links the Republic with neighbouring Mozambique, Botswana and Namibia.
The blockade especially on the road between Zeerust and Mahikeng on the Lehurutshe junction, made the road impassable caused disruptions to early morning traffic.
The South African Police Service and the Provincial Traffic, led by Transport Regulations Chief Director Mr Molefi Morule of the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, engaged with the taxi operators who were uncooperative, resulting in forceful removal of taxis on the road.
The motive behind the closure of the road by taxi operators is still unknown and the Department will continue to engage them to understand the reasons behind the blockade.
