The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management’s Acting Director for District Development Model, Lesego Motsatsi says the involvement of TKC representatives reveals an opportunity for further collaboration in the future.

“We are greatly honoured to have international guests who have embraced the call to observe how we conduct our debate sessions.

“This is an extension of our collaboration as three member states of the TKC to advance and achieve our development goals. In the near future, we would like to see a how we can develop a model for a TKC schools debate,” said Motsatsi.

The Executive Director of the Trans Kalahari Corridor Secretariat, Leslie Mpofu says observing presentations of the learners was a delight.

“The motion for this debate which is the enforcement of rail freight can reduce fatalities on South African roads is a very important topic to consider as for policy formation,”

“Transport is an enabler of the economy, which is why we need to understand these issues and come up with solutions to address our issues within the entire transport sector,” said Mpofu.

Speaking on behalf of the Bojanala Platinum District Municipality, MMC for Technical Services Cllr Victoria Makhaula says learners have displayed great understanding of the topic and were able to apply it to issues within the district.

“Learners were able to articulate their views on the matter and it shows that we can borrow from those ideas at council level and at the level of TKC as we work towards reducing fatalities on our roads, particularly in Bojanala which remains a hotspot,” said Cllr Makhaula.
