CSFs to be sustained in NW

A commitment made to mobilise stakeholders in the fight against crime has become a success when the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management launches its 4th Community Safety Forum (CSF) in the Madibeng Local Municipality.

As crime requires an integrated approach, the department plays a key role in forming partnerships, facilitate and establish CSFs in local Municipalities across the province.

The forum focuses primarily on the implementation of the local crime prevention strategies and remains directly accountable to the community which it serves.

Speaking to stakeholder representatives and residents of Madibeng during the launch, the Chief Director for Civilian Secretariat for Police Service Ms Mpho Rantona said the department will ensure the sustainability of these established CSFs by providing necessary support to the Municipalities as they are the ones leading the structures.

“We are not just here to launch and leave , however we will continue to provide a necessary support to all our CSFs because they are at forefront of our crime prevention initiatives.,” said Rantona, who further committed that the department will continue establishing CSFs in other Municipalities in the next financial year.

The policy mandate guiding the establishment of a CSFs is derived from the National Crime Prevention Strategy (1996), White Paper on Traditional Leadership and Governance as well as the South African Police Service Act 1995 (on CPFs) amongst other legislations.
