DCSTM congratulates provincial road safety debate and PET winners.
The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management extends congratulatory messages to the provincial champions in the Road Safety Schools Debate and Participatory Education Techniques (PET) Competition. The provincial event was held in Rustenburg on Friday, where schools from the four districts competed with one another for the win.
Vryburg Secondary School, won the provincial champion title in the debate category with Kopanelo Secondary School taking the same title in the PET category.
The schools will be representing the North West Province at the national competitions during the 2025 October Transport Month (OTM). This includes, Malatse Motsepe Secondary as the runner up in the debate contest to participate in the rural category alongside other provinces.
Weighing the pros and cons on the implementation of the 2021- 2030 Road Safety Decade of Action, learners participating in the debate competition displayed a great deal of understanding on road safety issues and even greater consideration of solutions to the problems.
Equally, those in the PET category were lauded for creative models and written submissions that were presented before adjudicators.
The Director for Road Safety Management, Motshabi Tshukudu says this nationwide programme, cultivates a sense of responsibility for safer road use among young people.
“Road deaths have become prevalent particularly when it comes to young people and our intention as government is to put measures in place to preserve lives. You have demonstrated a deep understanding of policy and strategies to realise that objective.
“You have now become road safety ambassadors, who will go back to communities and encourage a positive change in people’s perceptions and behaviour for safer conduct on our roads”, said Tshukudu.
