DCSTM empowers OHS Committee

Rustenburg – In a significant step towards enhancing workplace safety and risk mitigation, the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management recently convened a critical Departmental Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Steering Committee induction. The event brought together key stakeholders to empower the committee which comprises of Senior Management Service (SMS) members, with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively execute their roles.

As Assistant Director of Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Quality (SHERQ) Mr McDonald Tshabalala suitably put it, “The purpose of this induction is to equip our OHS Steering Committee with a comprehensive understanding of their roles, responsibilities and limitations in mitigating risks and ensuring a safe working environment across our departmental workplaces, by that doing, we are fostering a culture of safety, compliance and accountability.”

The induction featured expert insights from the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA), Provincial Office of the Premier, National Department of Employment and Labour, as well as Labour Law specialists who shared their expertise on critical aspects of OHS. These included the legislative framework governing occupational health and safety, risk mitigation strategies and the roles and responsibilities of the committee.
