DCSTM Hosts 3rd Quarter Provincial Transport Forum
Dr Kenneth Kaunda District – The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management (DCSTM) recently hosted a Provincial Transport Forum in Maquassi Hills Local Municipality. The forum brought together stakeholders from the three spheres of government and transport sector to share updates and discuss challenges. Key highlights included presentations on the North West Provincial Growth and Development Strategies, Operating Licence and Permits, Local Municipality Progress Reports and Rural Roads Asset Management activities.
Stakeholders in attendance included the Department of Public Works and Roads, North West Office of the Premier, National Department of Transport, provincial District Municipalities and Local Municipalities.
Acting Director of Transport Planning and Policy Development, Mr. Segopotso Mmolotsi indicated the highlight of the quarter 3 reports, “The highlight of Q3 is the presentation by the Department of Public Works and Roads on the Rural Road Asset Management System (RRAMS) with reference to the S’Hamba Sonke Programme and its objectives”, he stated.
The S’Hamba Sonke Programme aims to address spatial inequalities, create job opportunities, improve rural transport and infrastructure, and open the rural economy to new investment and development.
Furthermore, he said emphasized the purpose of Provincial Transport Forum, “The collaboration of the three spheres of government seeks to create a single, integrated, efficient, safe and sustainable national transport system that supports economic growth, social development and equitable access to opportunities.”
The forum aimed to facilitate collaboration and empowerment among stakeholders, enabling them to address challenges and drive development in the transport sector.
