DEPARTMENT MAKES IMPRESSION AT OVERSIGHT MEETING ON MAINTENANCE OF AIRPORTS.
Members of the Select Committee for Finance who toured the GD Montshioa Airport in Mahikeng are impressed by measures implemented by the Community Safety and Transport Management Department to ensure that the facility remains in good condition, despite it being non operational.
The department was led by MEC Wessels Morweng and HOD Dr Hans Kekana at the committee’s oversight visit to the airport on Wednesday, to inspect all buildings within the airport precinct as well as their funtionality.
The Chairperson of the Committee Sanny Ndhlovu lauded the department for being able to preserve the buildings and ensuring that the property is not left open to acts of vandalism.
”I want to congradulate MEC Morweng and the department for making sure that the buildings don’t get vandalised. Although the report presented by the department indicates a low budget allocated, i must indicate that to find the building in such a condition needs to be applauded.
“To make sure that the airport is back to funtionality, all role players are required from the province to National”, Ndlhovu said.
The team visited all facilities at the airport including the side of the aviation school and hangers as well as the runway which is regarded as one of the longest in the African Continent.
