Department of Community Safety and Transport Management Honours the life of PI Mfati Omphemetse Vinolia

Rustenburg – The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management (DCSTM), in gloomy rainy weather, held a solemn memorial service, to reflect on the life of Provincial Inspector Mfati Omphemetse Vinolia.

PI Mfati, lovingly refered to as “Fafa” by friends and colleagues alike, was stationed at the Rustenburg Traffic Station. She joined DCSTM on the 21st of August 2017 and dedicated her life as a public servant.

Departmental management, colleagues, family members, and members of the community gathered to pay tribute to the fallen officer, who showed dedication, bravery, and unwavering commitment to traffic management and road safety in the public service.

Mfati’s colleagues described her as someone who was a straight shooter, a willful individual and was not afraid to stand her ground.

In her address, PPI Pitsoane remembered PI Mfati as an ambitious and energetic public servant, “Mfati was very ambitious. I remember how her behaviour had changed, showing growth. She came to me one day and requested to be made the Acting SPI, stating that if others do not step up to the plate, she is more than willing to take the reins, and so I told her to go forth and i concured. She will be dearly missed, our hearts are broken but we continue to trust in the Lord,” said PPI Pitsoane.

The Chief Director for Transport Regulations, Molefi Morule, urged colleagues in attendance to prioritize rest and rid themselves of the habit of chasing Over-Time at the expense of one’s health. He further cautioned managers against creating working environments that are detrimental to the mental health of their subordinates. “There’s a difference between being a manager and a leader, consider yourself to be a flower, in a garden full of other flowers. We are like a family, regardless of our shortcomings as individuals, we need to make sure that we always bloom together,” he said.

The Department extends its deepest condolences to the Mfati family, friends and colleagues.

The memorial service served as a moment of reflection on the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers in their line of duty and highlighted the Department honours their legacy through continued service to the people.

PI Mfati will be laid to rest at Northam, in Limpopo Province on the 1st February 2026. May her memory live on forever in the hearts of her loved ones.
