Departmental Awards Ceremony for Community Safety Patrollers

The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management hosted an awards ceremony in Dr Kenneth Kaunda district, in recognition of Community Safety Patrollers (CSP) who were graduating as PSIRA (Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority) accredited General Security Officers.

The awards and graduation ceremony was a token of appreciation and gratitude from the department, towards Community Safety Patrollers, who have been hard at work. It also marked the end of their skills development journey, where they underwent training as General Security Officers, to better equip them to protect their respective communities.

The work of these CSP Officers was primarily acknowledged by Sergent Kadi from the Leeudoringstad Police Station, who described them as dedicated and passionate.

“With your training journey having come to an end, you demonstrated nothing but perseverance and hardwork. You are now urged to continue the journey of keeping our communities safe”, said Sergent Kadi.

Mr. Tebogo Serage, the Provincial Coordinator of CPF, in representation of the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, also spoke on the efforts of the CSP Officers across the district, highlighting that they have been key participants in the fight against crime.

“With the skills that you have acquired from the departmental General Security training, we urge you to not only end here, but continue upskilling yourselves and playing the role of frontline defendants in your different communities”, said Mr. Serage.

The awards and graduation ceremony was attended by the Director of the EPWP Programme, from the National Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, Ms. Xoliswa Letsapa, who also commended the work and efforts of the CSP Officials.

“When the CSP programme began, it was mainly aimed at skills development and to curb unemployment. It has however grown beyond these objectives, and produced stewards like you who have chosen to actively solve issues in your communities, like crime. I therefore urge you to continue this work because graduation is just the beginning”, said Ms. Letsapa.

In attendance was also the District Counsellor of Dr KK, Jeffery Lesie, who spoke on the impact of CSP Officials across the district.

“The visibility of CSP Officers across the district is commendable and reflects good coordination. I can proudly say crime in Dr KK has significantly reduced because of your presence. We therefore thank you for your service and hope you will continue serving our people with diligence”, said Counsellor Letsie.

This departmental CSP awards and graduation ceremony marks the beginning of a long-term fight against crime, in line with the goal of creating safer communities and building one North West province for all. With an addition of General Security Officers to community safety, the department will be better positioned to execute this mandate.
