EDMC FIRST QUARTER REPORT
The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management embarked on the Extended Departmental Management Committee to engage on the first quarter report in Ngaka Modiri Molema District facilitated by Acting Chief Director for Corporate Services, Dr Marindi.
The program commenced with a welcome address and outline of the day’s objectives by Acting Head of Department, Mr Molefi Morule. He noted that the session deals with the layer of management that deals with issues of the department to elevate level of performance and areas of concern such as consequence management, accruals and deviation continues to be a major challenge within the department. “Discipline is a key management responsibility. It is important that we hold individuals accountable for misconduct,” Mr Morule stated.
Chief Financial Officer, Ms Kutlwano Phatudi, presented the department’s first quarter expenditure report. She flagged several irregularities and financial risks, including significant impairments and ongoing challenges in the scholar transport program.
She informed the meeting that a number of buses in the program do not meet road worthiness requirements, posing a safety risk to learners.
The CFO also revealed that the department is facing difficulties in collecting approximately R1 billion outstanding debt, which currently consists solely of traffic fines. “There must be a clear strategy in place to recover these debts and strengthen our revenue collection,” Ms Phatudi said.
Staff wellbeing was also a key focus of the session. Dr. T. Maifala and Dr. E Mpsche from Mahikeng Provincial Hospital addressed delegates on the relationship between mental health and community safety.
