Head of Department Dr Hans Kekana addressing KOBATA

Kopanang Bahurutshe Taxi Association (KOBATA)

A meeting between the other splinter of Kopanang Bahurutshe Taxi Association (KOBATA) resolved on the appointment of an audit firm to audit the associations financial statements from 2014 to 2021.

The non audited financial statements for the association seem to be the cause of the separation of the members, which led to two wings of the organisation.

The situation led to the other members struggling to renew their operating licenses.

The two groups of KOBATA have been meeting separately with the Department to try and resolve their impasse but not coming to a conclusion as to wayforward

Head of Department Dr Hans Kekana who was leading the meeting said, they will speed up the appointment of the audit firm as he want this matter to be resolved and closed for good.

“This matter has been going on for a very long time and we have exhausted all the processes, however, from today’s discussions I guess we are now having a way forward. We are going to appoint an audit firm and will take it from there with audit recommendations,” said Kekana.

HoD was accompanied in the meeting by the North West Public Transport Intervention Team (NWPTIT) chairperson and the deputy and the Director for Operator License and Permits.
