Mahikeng CSF launched

In advancing the fight against crime in Mahikeng, the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management has mobilised relevant structures to form part of the Mahikeng Community Safety Forum, which was launched today at Gelukspan Multipurpose Centre.

This Forum is one of the strategic initiatives to encourage partnership and involve communities to fight crime and create safer environment.

During the official launch, Head of Department, Dr Hans Kekana has called on stakeholders and communities in general to work hand-in-hand with the police, the Mahikeng Local Municipality as they will be playing a critical role and leading the Forum.

“Safety is not police responsibility only but all of us because crime happens in our communities and criminals are part of the community.

We can’t get our Province to reach the high levels of crime under our watch and this is the reason why we are launching thi forum, to fight crime in an integrated approach. We need communities to work with this forum and police to fight crime and the most worrying stocktheft and drug usage,” said Kekana.

He further outlined the impact of the District Dwvelopment Model (DDM) in communities. “The DDM allows us to excess even the most rural communities in the remote parts of the Province so that they too can access basic services that they require.

It is deliberate that this programme and many others in the Department follow this model to increase access and optimise resources,” he concluded.

All participating stakeholders signed the pledge of commitment.
