Impounded vehicles for non compliance
MEC APPLAUDS LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ON STAMPING AUTHORITY TO NON COMPLIANT MOTORISTS
MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management Wessels Morweng has applauded law enforcement officers led by the Eagles traffic unit in Mahikeng for stamping their authority on non compliant motorists since this morning.
During the special operation that started in the early hours, two trucks were impounded for failing to display valid license discs as well as 12 mini busses for loading school children without proper permits and overloading.
MEC Morweng said to ensure that road users adhere to the traffic laws, similar operations will be carried throughout the province as part of October Transport Month and also ensuring that public transport adheres to traffic laws.
“Two taxis permitted to load 15 were found to have loaded more than what is required. The one had 28 while the other loaded 34 school kids. This can’t be tolerated and it is a recipe for disaster if not nipped in the bud. We also urge parents to monitor these taxis and make sure that they load the required numbers as permitted, I guess it is a combined responsibility that we must both as parents and government carry to save our children’s lives,” said Morweng.
The operations also impounded 13 motor vehicles for different offenses.
MEC Morweng further said he meant business when in his speech said he would arrest, arrest and arrest. He said it can’t be business as usual when people are dying on the roads on weekly basis.
