MEC Morweng tabled 2024/25 budget vote


North West Community Safety and Transport Management MEC, Wessels Morweng has tabled the Department’s budget vote for the financial year 2024/25 at the North West Provincial Legislature.

In his speech, MEC Morweng emphasised on bringing positive change on the lives of communities by ensuring that the budget allocated is spent accordingly.

“We are going to continue to mobilize communities to participate in the crime prevention initiatives in pursuit of creating a safer environment.

With the allocated budget, we will promote relations between the police and communities, by providing support to community structures in ensuring their participation in crime prevention initiatives.

Community police forums and all community-based structures will be supported through monitoring, capacity building and funding of initiatives,” said MEC outlining the fight against crime.

In addition to crime issues, MEC also emphasized the importance of making livestock theft a priority as many rural communities survive through communal farming and the danger posed by criminal will diminish their dreams.

He continued that the Department will pilot the first integrated public transport system in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District.

“For now, the communities in this District will continue to access subsidized public transport through the current system until new contracts come into place,” said MEC Morweng, who further outlined that the Department will provide continued administration and technical support to Municipalities towards the establishment of Registering Authorities.
