Johannesburg: The Minister of Transport, Sindisiwe Chikunga, flanked by transport MECs: NW MEC Sello Lehari; Free State MEC Letsoha-Mathae; & Diale Tlhaebela for Gauteng, has released Festive Season Road Statistics. 1427 people perished on the roads nationally. This is a 7 percent reduction compared to the year before.
North West Province recorded 127 fatalities and is amongst 5 provinces with a least number of crashes. This means, the province recorded a 2.1% reduction compared to the year 2022.
Minister Chikunga commended MEC Lehari and other MEC’s who worked tirelessly during the festive season to save lives in a form of conducting roadblocks, road safety education amongst other measures implemented.
MEC Sello Lehari will officially release the provincial statistics, in detail, on Tuesday, 30th January 2024.
