MEC TLHAPI WELCOMES THE SIU INVETSIGATION ON NTI

MEC for the North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, Mme Tsotso Tlhapi welcomes the proclamation 348 of by President Cyril Ramaphosa, in authorising the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to investigate the affairs of the North West Transport Investment (NTI) and its subsidiaries.

This development is an important step towards addressing the longstanding concerns surrounding the affairs of the entity and its subcontracting partners and the matter is now subject to an official investigation by the SIU.

“The Department has full confidence in the capacity, expertise and independence of the Special Investigating Unit in conducting a thorough and impartial investigation into the allegations levelled against the entity.”

“We trust that the investigation will provide clarity on all allegations currently under scrutiny and, where wrongdoing is identified, we will ensure that appropriate corrective measures are implemented and this includes the recovery of any public funds that may have been unlawfully lost and the prosecution of those found to have acted unlawfully,” said MEC Tlhapi.

She further alluded that the people of the North West deserve a reliable, efficient and accountable public transport system that serves their needs and contributes to the socio-economic development of the province. The Department remains committed in promoting good governance, transparency and accountability in its entities, like the NTI, which falls under the Department.

“We will fully cooperate and support the SIU during this investigation. it is through processes like this which restores public confidence in our department and its entities. This is an era of ensuring that public resources are used appropriately for their intended purpose”, she concluded.
