The North West Province has experienced a fair reduction on road fatalities during the 2023 festive season, which 10% less than the same period last year. The reduction is attributed to the Department’s accelerated road safety campaigns including the Joint Law Enforcement Operations led by the MEC for the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari since October 2023.
The department’s programmes targeted problematic routes in the province for operations such as N4, N12, N14, N18 and other arterial roads linking with neighbouring Provinces.
Part of the operations are to ensure motor vehicle and driver compliance, road safety engagement with road users in general and further to check motorists who owe traffic fines in the Province.
This morning on the N4, MEC Lehari and the department’s high ranking law enforcement officers including Director for Provincial Road Traffic Management Mr Paul Stone are currently leading the operation to pinch on owing drivers to immediately pay their outstanding fines.
