Provincial Road Safety school debate and Participatory Education Techniques at North West Provincial Legislature
MEC Virginia Tsotso Tlhapi responsible for the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management congratulates Mmabatho High School & Lodirile Tswaing High School for being crowned the 2026 Provincial Road Safety school Debate and PET Champions.
They battled it out at the NW Legislature today and will now represent North West Province in Gauteng next month for Nationals.We are proud of all schools that participated. Road Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
Mmabatho High School Crowned Provincial Road Safety Debate Champions
Mahikeng – The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management through the Directorate of Road Safety Management, today hosted the provincial School’s Debate at the Provincial Legislature in Mahikeng
Participating schools were Mmabatho High School, Kismet Secondary School, Klerksdorp Secondary School, and Fields College.
This is a continuation of the debates that were previously held in different districts across the province.
The motion was: “Lack of proper spatial planning is responsible for the high rate of pedestrian fatalities in South Africa.”
The event was attended by Provincial Traffic Officers, the Road Accident Fund (RAF), the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, and the North West Provincial Government – Arrive Alive campaign.

Best Speaker Award:
Olebogeng Mahlangu from Mmabatho High School (Ngaka Modiri Molema District) was named the Best Speaker of the Provincial Debate for her compelling argument on spatial planning and pedestrian safety.
“Your voice is your instrument your knowledge is your power, but it all depends on how you use it” , said the District Director of Ngaka Modiri Molema, Ms. Pelotshweu Kotu.
Mmabatho High School will represent North West Province at the National Road Safety Debates.
The Department believes that when learners speak, communities listen and safer roads begin with informed young voices.
