SCHOLAR TRANSPORT DISCONTINUED FOR NONCOMPLIANCE

TAUNG – Two learner transport busses have been discontinued at Thapama Secondary School in Matlapaneng village near Pudumong in Taung.

As part of MEC Morweng’s directive to clamp down on noncompliance by some scholar transport operators, the North West Provincial Traffic Officers have regularly been monitoring roadworthiness of the busses.

Two busses were discontinued for noncompliance. The buses did not have original license discs but operated with copies.

Traffic officers and senior management of the Department, alongside the Portfolio Committee on Community Safety and Transport Management are on monitoring leaner transport in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District.

The Thapama Secondary School has two operators with three buses, however, the other operator did not operate with the required bus according to the signed service level agreement.

At the beggining of the year, the Department invited contracted operators to undergo testing of their buses, however, not all complied and the processes is still ongoing.

In the wake of the Human Rights Commission Report on scholar transport, MEC Morweng has directed that all noncompliant operators must be terminated.
