STAKEHOLDERS AGREE TO END TAXI SHUTDOWN
The Executive Mayor of the City of Matlosana Hon Cllr Fikile Mahlophe today met with leaders of local taxi industry, representatives from the provincial Department of Public Safety and Transport Management, Brigadier Juma and a team from SAPS as well as Matlosana Public Safety.
The meeting agreed on the following course of action:
1. The province will immediately develop a programme of action with clear timelines starting in the first week of April to address the backlog of permits and operating licenses
2. On the issue of 7-seater vehicles operating illegally in the KOSH area, the Municipal and Provincial traffic departments will embark on an operation to clampdown on such from tomorrow 24th March.
3. On the matter of roads the municipality outlined its program to address the roads infrastructure across KOSH area. The taxi operators indeed acknowledged the work done so far and further urged the municipality to speed up this programme. On the related scourge of the extornionists who are stopping the roads works and demanding 30% from the roads maintenance work the stakeholders resolved that law-enforcement should henceforth clamodown on such illegal activities.
The mayor and all stakeholders in the meeting wish to apologize to the broader community for the disruption and inconvenience caused and assure everybody that the situation will return to normal as of tomorrow.
