MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari has this morning instructed the South African Police Service and Provincial Traffic officers to close entrances and exits in Moretele to ensure total compliance.

MEC Lehari said this in the early hours when addressing a parade prior to the joint law enforcement operations which are part of this week’s Thuntsha Lerole Accelerated Service Delivery Programme currently in Mathibestad in the Moretele Local Municipality.

“Today we are fast tracking services in the Moretele area, therefore as part of this, all vehicles that are coming here must be stopped and checked. We must never be tolerant to any wrong doer irrespective of their position. Stop those MECs, Mayors and HoDs to ensure compliance.

Let us close Moretele, make an impact and make sure that they feel our presence. It doesn’t matter who you stop, just do your job fearlessly and serve them with a smile,” said MEC Lehari.

Just a few minutes after his address, a dedicated team of police and traffic officers set the tone of operation when they stopped a 16-seater taxi that was overloaded with 21 passengers.

Upon vehicle inspection, officers established that it was also unroadworthy leading to impoundment.

MEC Lehari has since activated the Provincial Safer Festive Operations which are being enrolled across the Province throughout the festive season to January 2024.

Phase 2 of the Accelerated Service Delivery Programme – Thuntsha Lerole is currently being rolled-out to local municipalities across the province, where intervention on service delivery challenges is prioritized.
