TAKE A CHILD TO WORK CAMPAIGN

A never-forgotten responsibility of the department is to continuously educate scholars about what the department is all about and create a path of infinite possibilities of different career opportunities within the department and the government as a whole.

The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management entrusted officials to lead the “Take a Child to Work” campaign with courage to make a difference in scholars lives. 10 learners and 2 teachers representing Ramotshere High School and NR Mandela Commercial Secondary School from Zeerust were part of this auspicious session.

The essence of the campaign comes with making a positive session clouded by informative engagement.

Ms. Gloria Tshepe manager for Gender Focal Point and Diversity Management welcomed participants. “This is a meaningful session that shows the priorities of our department through this campaign. We welcome you learners and teachers with gratitude and privilege to have you here today, and know that you’re liberated to be yourself and take part. There’s more you will learn,” concluded Ms Tshepe.

From the appointment of MEC Wessels Morweng, his intention has been clear to empower the young with endless opportunities, and the department is continually seeking to fulfill that. The “Take a Child to Work” campaign is an inclusive process of impacting both girl and boy children in the province. The department believes that they need to be transformed equally without anyone left behind.

Learners were taught about service delivery driven programs offered to communities by the department such as Transport Operations, Civilian Secretariat for Police Services, and Transport Regulations. The session echoed the prioritizing of education and pursuing relevant qualifications to be employable in the department.

Road Traffic Management representative Ms Neo Molokoane emphasized that learners should never be disheartened to study hard no matter the circumstances or their background. “Your background should never be a distraction, your parents’ issues shouldn’t be yours. You must know that I was the first one in my entire family to pass matric so make sure that you study and pass, lastly know that in this department there are multiple opportunities awaiting for you,” said Ms Molokoane.

There are Road safety school projects and programs offered to learners that they can be part of in their respective schools such as scholar patrol, road safety presentations, Road safety school debate, Participatory Education Technique, and Back to School campaigns.

Learners came out of the session as new individuals full of appreciation and transformed into knowledgeable individuals. Mokotama Otshepeng, a 16 year old girl from Ramotshere High School uttered her words of thanks to the department. “I’m glad that I’m part of this campaign. I had an opportunity to learn more about scholar transport and other related information about the department. I’m grateful, and if in the future I don’t make it in Engineering, I will definitely follow the career paths of this department”, she said.

The department encouraged learners to be active young citizens who will impart information shared with them to their peers at home to make a difference in their respective communities.
